Tracy and Taylor had been best friends since they were playing in the sandbox in kindergarten with each other. Now, suddenly in grade nine, Taylor wanted to be popular. She acted like them, dressed like them, and followed them. Them. The “popular crowd”. Lisa, May and Cara. Their parents were rich and they only let the certain few into their “group.” Cara, being the “queen-bee”, told Taylor that if she wanted to be popular, she had to prove that she wanted to be there. “And that was to make a fool of me.” She finished. She knew now that Taylor was popular; she would refer to Tracy and the other regular folk as the “loser crowd”. If Taylor wouldn’t talk to Tracy, she certainly wouldn’t cave. Taylor had crossed the line, and she needed to know it.
She went downstairs to talk to her mother. There was a plate of freshly baked cookies on the table. That was very unusual for her family. They believed in very healthy food and desserts were for birthdays and other parties. “I found out what happened with Taylor today.” Her mother said. “Do you want to talk about it?” Tracy told her mother the story. “I know this is very cliché, but that is what happened.” She finished. Sam, her older sister came in. “Jess told me what happened.” She said. “Maybe, if you want me too Trace, I can call Cassie and ask her to help.” Added Sam. “I would love if you could do that.” Said Tracy. “Maybe then the popular people could accept me.” Cassie was short for Cassandra Hayloft. She was Tracy and Sam’s cousin. She was smart, pretty, nice, and had the best taste in clothes. If you needed a makeover, Cassie was the one to call. She was currently in Harvard Medical School, learning how to be a pediatrician. Since Tracy lived in Boston, they met each other quite regularly.
Tracy was so excited for Cassie to come. Because Tracy had a 4 day weekend, she knew that he would be able to get her hair done and do many other things. She had called Cassie and Cassie said that she would come the next day. Also, Sam said that she would help, as long as she didn’t have too much homework.
The next day Cassie took Tracy to get a haircut. When they got home, Tracy screamed! Her haircut was fabulous! It was an angled bob that showed off Tracy’s high cheekbones. She had also gotten beautiful caramel and hazelnut highlights. Her ears were now pierced and she looked unbelievably good. It was amazing.
The next day, they went shopping for clothes. The day after that was reserved for accessories. The last day was how to put everything together. Tracy was so happy. She went to school and everyone stared. She looked really great. But, they just wanted to be her friend because of the clothes. So, she went back to her old clothes, but kept the hair style. Some people still wanted to be her friend, but not everyone.
As this continued, Tracy noticed that she wasn’t happy. She then met Laura. Laura was the sweetest girl alive. She was quirky and lively and she cared about people. They became instant friends.
Tracy still wore the cool clothes, but because she wanted to, not because she had to.
O dear... I love this story! But, dont you think it was a LITTLE bit TOOO dramatic?
